Retro platformer creator game

Platform Game Maker is a premium game utility for PCs developed by Playstige Interactive. It's an interactive simulator that lets players create their very own platforming adventure from scratch. It boasts retro pixel aesthetics and provides plenty of building assets for all kinds of possible scenarios and challenges.

Similar to Nintendo's own Super Mario Maker 2 or Game Builder Garage, Platform Game Maker features a robust but intuitive editor. There are all types of blocks, in-game objects, and enemies to allow players to create some pretty elaborate and challenging levels that they can share with others in the community.

Create your own adventure

Nintendo has a large library of first-party exclusives that are loved by millions of fans across the world. One of them is the charming and interactive Super Mario Maker series which lets players design and build a platforming game from scratch. While it will most likely never make it over to the PC space, games like Platform Game Maker aim to be an alternative.

If you've played Mario Maker or even Minecraft, for that matter, Platform Game Maker will look quite familiar to you. There's a toolbar up top to scroll through available assets, and essentially drag-and-drop placement as you go about building levels. Choose your main character, plot your course on the grid, and put enemies and various traps in place to provide some challenge.

Depending on how elaborate you want to make your game, you have the option to place checkpoints at certain areas to help players save their progress. You even get to decide what rewards can be received for completing levels and the whole game itself. One area where it still needs more work is with controls, particularly, the responsiveness, which is oftentimes a stiff and janky mess.

A decent substitute

The concept of creating a platforming game from scratch is still a pretty fresh idea even today, and you can thank Super Mario Maker for helping popularize the idea. Platform Game Maker is a decent attempt at replicating the experience for non-Nintendo gamers. While not without its faults, the good more than outweighs the bad, so give it a try now.
